CJ CheilJedang covers full consulting costs to help partners earn workplace safety certification

CJ CheilJedang is stepping up efforts to build a cooperative safety culture that extends beyond its own workforce to cover employees at partner companies.

A partner company at CJ CheilJedang's Jincheon factory has obtained Serious Accidents Punishment Act compliance certification, known as SCC, with support from CJ CheilJedang, the company said Thursday. The certification is issued by law firm Daeryuk Aju, which conducts a comprehensive external assessment of a company's occupational health and safety management system and its capacity to respond to serious accidents.

CJ CheilJedang covered the full cost of the required consulting, concluding that the safety management capabilities of its partners are directly tied to the sustainability of its entire supply chain. The initiative was designed to objectively verify and improve whether the safety and health management systems that partners have put in place are actually functioning on the ground.

The company plans to share best practices and know-how from the certification process with other partner companies. It said it will work to raise the overall standard of occupational safety and health across its supply chain and gradually expand the pool of partners eligible for the certification support program.

"Ensuring the safety of workers at partner companies is both a corporate social responsibility and a core element of sustainable management," a CJ CheilJedang official said. "We will establish a cooperative safety environment where all workers can do their jobs with peace of mind."
