Chinese tourist kidnapped in Bangkok thrown from moving vehicle in Thailand

A Chinese woman in her 20s visiting Bangkok was kidnapped by four Thai men and narrowly escaped by jumping from a moving vehicle.

According to local media including the Thai Examiner, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. Sunday (local time) in Kamphaeng Phet Province in central Thailand.

The 29-year-old had been staying at a hotel when she boarded a black vehicle sent by a man who had introduced himself as a tour guide — and found herself in danger.

She had no idea she was being kidnapped, but the situation changed abruptly when three more men boarded the vehicle after it left the hotel. Realizing she had been deceived, she resisted, but the men overpowered her, bound her hands with cable ties and assaulted her.

As she was being transported toward Mae Sot, a Thai town bordering Myanmar, she spotted a police checkpoint and screamed for help. The suspects tried to flee from pursuing officers but ultimately abandoned her on the roadside and drove off.

With her hands still bound, she ran to a nearby shop and knocked on the door seeking help. Police and local residents took her to a hospital for treatment. She is not in critical condition.

Thai police fired live rounds in pursuit. When the vehicle's tires were shot out, the suspects abandoned the car and fled into a forest. Officers searched the roadside forest and a nearby temple, eventually arresting all four suspects.

Police believe the men were attempting to transport the woman to an area near the Myanmar border and are investigating the motive and any parties behind the crime. One suspect told police he had agreed to be paid 10,000 baht ($311) to bring the woman from Bangkok to Mae Sot.

Investigators are looking into whether a mastermind directed the operation, amid conflicting statements from the suspects. Police are also probing whether a Chinese accomplice lured the woman to Thailand before handing her over to the Thai suspects.
