Woman changes baby's diaper at packed cafe, sparking debate

A woman who changed her baby's diaper inside a crowded cafe has sparked online debate.

JTBC's "Sageon Banjang," a TV current-affairs program, aired a tip Wednesday from a viewer identified only as A, who said she had witnessed the incident at a cafe.

A had been visiting a cafe near a beach, passing the time over cake and a smoothie she had ordered, when she noticed an unusual smell.

Looking around, she spotted two women moving busily with a child between them. The pair changed the baby's diaper in the middle of the packed cafe, seemingly unconcerned about those around them, then pulled out wet wipes to clean up. The location was an ordinary cafe — not a restroom or a dedicated nursing room.

"I felt so nauseated that I couldn't finish the food I had ordered and just left," A said.

Attorney Park Ji-hoon said parents may be accustomed to the smell of their own child's waste, but that it could come as quite a shock to others. "In a space where people come to enjoy the aroma of coffee or cake, mixing in the smell of a diaper change would be hard for other customers to take," he added.
