Democratic Party establishes Korean Peninsula peace strategy committee, names Rep. Lee Yong-seon as standing chair

The Democratic Party of Korea established a special committee on a new Korean Peninsula peace strategy on Friday, appointing Rep. Lee Yong-seon as its standing chair.

Chief Spokesperson Park Seong-jun announced the decision to reporters after a supreme council meeting at Inspire Resort in Incheon.

Serving as co-chairs alongside Lee are Rep. Kim Byeong-ju, former Navy Chief of Staff Hwang Gi-cheol, Kim Dae-jung Institute President Baek Hak-soon, former Deputy Foreign Minister Lim Seong-nam and Eokkae Dongmu children's organization Chairman Lee Gi-beom.

Rep. Oh Gi-hyeong was named chair of the K-capital markets special committee, while Secretary General Han Jeong-ae and Policy Committee Chair Kwon Chil-seung were appointed co-heads of the housing market stabilization TF.

Supreme Council Member Choi Min-hee will lead the media public interest strengthening TF. Additional appointments included Reps. Min Hong-cheol and Hwang Hee as co-heads of the US-China-Japan party diplomacy task force, and Rep. Lee Hae-sik as co-head of the police reform TF. Reps. Kim Dong-a, Lee Gi-heon, Lee Ju-hee and Lim Mi-ae will serve as members of the police reform TF.

Policy Committee Chair Kwon Chil-seung joined the mega-growth special committee TF — chaired by party leader Kim Min-seok — as standing vice chair, with former state affairs agenda secretary Han Sang-ik coming aboard as co-secretary.
