Local media: 2 killed, 2 wounded in strike on island
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has vowed strong retaliation after US forces struck Larak Island in the country's south.
The IRGC's public affairs office said in an official statement Sunday (local time) that "the enemy's terrorist act targeting Larak Island will face a powerful response, and the aggressor will be punished."
The statement said the United States and its "Zionist (Israeli) enemies," driven by desperation to escape mounting domestic problems and recover their eroding credibility in the region, "have once again revealed their malicious nature and are trying to mislead public opinion." It added that "through their brazen act of aggression, Larak Island was attacked, and several of our soldiers and compatriots were martyred (killed) and wounded."
The IRGC went on to warn that "such actions will face a powerful response from Iran's sons and daughters — its people and military — and the aggressor will certainly be punished."
Earlier, Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported that a US airstrike on Larak Island killed at least two people and wounded two others.
