North Gyeongsang Province, Yeongcheon formally propose relocating Korea Racing Authority headquarters

North Gyeongsang Province and Yeongcheon met with Korea Racing Authority President Woo Hee-jong on Friday and delivered a formal proposal to relocate the authority's headquarters to Yeongcheon.

The meeting was attended by Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Yang Geum-hee, Yeongcheon Mayor Kim Byeong-sam, and officials from North Gyeongsang Province, Yeongcheon and the Korea Racing Authority.

Yang and Kim outlined the rationale and feasibility of relocating the Korea Racing Authority headquarters to Yeongcheon, and exchanged views on key issues including preparations for the successful opening of Let's Run Park Yeongcheon, efforts to boost its operations, and the development of the regional horse industry.

Should the Korea Racing Authority agree to move its headquarters to Yeongcheon, the province and city plan to prepare a comprehensive settlement support package covering the relocation site, administrative procedures, and employee needs including housing, education, transportation, medical care and cultural amenities.

"Relocating the Korea Racing Authority headquarters to Yeongcheon is not simply a matter of moving an institution — it will be an important opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of South Korea's horse industry and advance balanced regional development," Yang said.

"The delivery of this proposal officially demonstrates that North Gyeongsang Province and Yeongcheon are moving as one team to attract the Korea Racing Authority headquarters," Mayor Kim said. "We will continue to communicate closely with the authority and do our utmost to ensure the relocation produces concrete results."
