Choi Min-sik says Kim Go-eun looked like a real shaman in 'Exhuma'

Actor Choi Min-sik has praised his Exhuma co-star Kim Go-eun for her performance in the film.

A video titled "Choi Min-sik has been reading all the comments. Unprecedented honesty" was posted Sunday on the YouTube channel Yojeong Jaehyeong.

In the video, Choi appeared as a guest and spoke with host Jeong Jae-hyeong about his work and approach to acting.

"Every actor — not just in Korea but around the world — has a different way of expressing their character," Choi said. "Some show technical acting, calculating their way into a role without emotional immersion, while others try to become the character through deep emotional engagement. Neither approach is better or worse than the other."

He then reflected on the shoot, saying he felt he moved back and forth between both methods. "Exhuma was especially like that. I found it really exciting," he said.

When host Jeong brought up Kim Go-eun's portrayal of shaman Lee Hwa-rim in the film, Choi drew laughs by saying he thought she might be moonlighting as an actual shaman.

"I even asked the shaman consultant on set whether Kim Go-eun might be one of her students," he said, noting the depth of Kim's immersion. "People have always said that actors and singers are just one step away from being a shaman, haven't they?"

He added that the consultant reassured him, saying, "No, don't worry — she's not one of us," to more laughter. "I was relieved to hear that," Choi said.
