Guro-gu Holds Results Showcase for 2026 Middle School Global Education Program

Guro-gu held a results showcase for its "2026 Middle School Global Education Program" at the Guro-gu Office auditorium on Saturday.

The event was organized to share the achievements of 28 first-year middle school students who completed a three-week global education curriculum in Canada from July 20 to Aug. 8.

The program was carried out with an educational donation from the Hyeonsong Education and Culture Foundation. Participating students took part in STEAM camps and English-language programs in the Waterloo region of Ontario, gaining experience in interdisciplinary education and project-based learning conducted in English.

The students also visited prestigious local universities including the University of Toronto and McMaster University, and took part in a range of cultural and social activities — among them a meeting with the mayor of Kitchener and volunteer work at a senior care facility. At Wilfrid Laurier University, they met Korean students currently enrolled there, heard firsthand accounts of studying abroad and tips for learning English, and had a meaningful opportunity to think seriously about their own futures.

At the showcase, certificates of completion were presented to students who had finished the three-week program, and the students shared their experiences and lessons from Canada through group presentations they had prepared themselves.

Guro-gu District Mayor Jang In-hong said he hoped the program had given students a chance to step outside their familiar surroundings, experience new forms of education and culture firsthand, and broaden their perspectives on English and their future careers. "I look forward to seeing them use the valuable experiences they have gained as a springboard to pursue their dreams with greater clarity," he added.
