Ride Hong Kong's iconic bridges — usually off-limits to cyclists — at October cyclothon

A large-scale cycling event will take riders through Hong Kong's major landmarks and coastal roads, blending a world-class race, a public ride and cultural festivities to showcase the city's urban appeal.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced Monday that the annual 2026 Hong Kong Cyclothon will be held Oct. 11. Sponsored by property developer Sun Hung Kai, the event comprises a public participation ride, a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Class 1.1 road race, a World University Trophy and a Cyclothon Carnival.

The public ride is divided into two courses — 56 kilometers and 32 kilometers — with more than 6,500 participants expected in total. The 56 km course, expanded from the previous 50 km, passes through five tunnels and three bridges connecting the Kowloon and New Territories areas. It includes the Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge and Stonecutters Bridge — all normally closed to cyclists — as well as the Central Kowloon Route linking Yau Ma Tei and Kai Tak, which will open to the event for the first time. The 32 km course passes through two tunnels and two bridges. Both courses start and finish at Museum Drive in the West Kowloon Cultural District.

The UCI Class 1.1 road race for professional cyclists also returns, with about 100 riders from 17 teams across 11 countries and regions set to compete. The course has been expanded from the previous Tsim Sha Tsui East circuit to a 100 km route connecting the city center. Riders will depart from the West Kowloon Cultural District and pass through the Nam Wan Tunnel, Stonecutters Bridge and the Central Kowloon Route before riding past the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the International Commerce Centre. The World University Trophy, open to students from leading universities including Peking University and Tsinghua University, will be held concurrently on the 56 km course.

On the day of the event, the Art Park in the West Kowloon Cultural District will host the Cyclothon Carnival, featuring live performances, sports activity zones and food and beverage booths open to the general public. Pre-registered participants from mainland China and overseas will receive a package including free admission to the Hong Kong Palace Museum, a one-way ferry ticket and discounts at more than 25 food and beverage stores within the district. A portion of participant fees and donations will go to charitable organizations.
