Residents of Samdeok Village handled everything from cooking to portioning about 50 servings of gochujang stir-fry, then delivered the meals directly to elderly and low-income households nearby.
Residents of Samdeok Village in Seoul's Seongbuk-gu showed their community spirit by preparing and sharing homemade gochujang stir-fry with neighbors struggling through the summer heat.
The Samdeok Village Community Council organized a gochujang stir-fry sharing event on Thursday as part of the 2026 Seongbuk-style Village Community grant project.
Residents took part in every step — from preparing ingredients to cooking and portioning — producing about 50 servings of gochujang stir-fry. The finished dishes were delivered directly to elderly residents and other vulnerable households in the area. As they made their rounds, participants also checked in on neighbors and spent time chatting with them.
Samdeok Village runs a range of community programs centered on its shared neighborhood facility, including urban sketching classes that document local scenery, a singing class and a samgyetang sharing event, all aimed at fostering exchange and goodwill among residents.
The latest event was organized as part of that ongoing tradition of resident-led community activity.
Kwon Young-seok, head of the Samdeok Village Community Council, said he was glad to offer even a small measure of help to neighbors in need. "We will keep organizing activities with residents to look out for our neighbors and share warmth with one another," he added.
Seongbuk-gu District Mayor Lee Seung-ro called it a meaningful effort in which residents not only cooked the food themselves but also visited and checked on their neighbors. "We will support community activities that encourage residents to connect with and care for one another throughout the district," he said.
