Homeplus said Monday it recorded total sales of 116.4 billion won ($84.6 million) since resuming operations this month.
The hypermarket chain released the figures covering the period from Aug. 13 to Sunday, when it reopened 67 stores nationwide. Sales rose 57 percent compared with the same period in July. Customer visits increased 38 percent over the period, while the number of purchasing members surged 255 percent.
Homeplus is currently paying for products upfront, accepting only the volume of goods it can cover within its available operating funds. This contrasts with the standard hypermarket practice of paying suppliers after products have been sold.
The company said the sales growth, achieved even under such constraints, points to further gains once its rehabilitation plan receives court approval. "Our customer base is solid, and we are confident that normal operations can be fully restored once regular supply resumes," a Homeplus official said.
