Daegu city announced Monday that it has appointed Lee Sang-hwa, 58, a former ambassador to the Philippines, as its new international relations ambassador, effective Tuesday.
Lee graduated from Korea University and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the 25th Foreign Service Examination.
He has served as counselor at the Colombian embassy, aide to the UN secretary-general, policy adviser to the foreign minister, ambassador to Myanmar, and public diplomacy ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"I am grateful to Daegu city for giving me the opportunity to put my abilities to work here," Lee said. "I will do my utmost to raise the profile of Daegu's economic diplomacy, drawing on the experience and expertise I have built on the diplomatic front."
