Seongju-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Tuesday it will establish a dedicated department to oversee a rural basic income program.
The new department will handle planning and overall coordination for the introduction of a rural basic income system, leading collaboration among relevant divisions.
It will take charge of all administrative procedures required for the program's launch, including drafting an ordinance to provide the legal basis for payments, devising a funding plan, designing a tailored implementation strategy, and applying for government grant projects.
The county also plans to develop a Seongju-specific rural basic income model to enable swift responses when applying for grant projects and pursuing related initiatives.
"We will do our utmost to ensure that basic income takes root as a policy that residents can feel directly in their daily lives, through a system that is effective and suited to Seongju-gun's local conditions," Seongju-gun County Mayor Jeon Hwa-sik said.
