Users can describe what they need and receive AI-powered product recommendations
GS Retail announced Tuesday the launch of a dedicated ChatGPT plugin that connects its Woori-dongne GS app with ChatGPT.
The service is straightforward to use. When a user asks ChatGPT about a product, the AI provides information on items sold at GS25, GS The Fresh and Wine25 Plus. Unlike the previous search method, which required users to know the exact product name, the plugin lets shoppers ask general questions about preferences — such as "recommend a chocolate milk" — and receive product suggestions along with promotional details like buy-one-get-one offers.
Once a user selects a recommended product, the same product detail page available on the Woori-dongne GS app appears directly within ChatGPT. Tapping "View on Woori-dongne GS app" takes the user to the app's integrated search section without requiring a separate login.
GS Retail plans to expand the service to include store information — such as locations, operating hours and additional services — for GS25 and GS The Fresh outlets. The company aims to connect its roughly 19,000 stores nationwide with the AI shopping service, creating a seamless path from product discovery to in-store visits.
Woori-dongne GS has held the top spot in monthly active users among offline retail apps since first reaching No. 1 in September 2023, and currently counts about 4.5 million monthly active users. Jeon Jin-hyeok, head of GS Retail's O4O division, said the company aims to go "beyond simple product recommendations to become an AI shopping assistant that understands customers' shopping situations and provides information on nearby stores."
