'Discover Korea' event wraps up successfully
VIP guests meet leading firms, capital market experts
Over 1 trillion won flows in via omnibus account system
Hana Securities announced Tuesday that it hosted a three-day "Discover Korea" event from Aug. 26 to Aug. 28, inviting VIP customers of Futu Securities to Korea to introduce them to the country's leading companies and capital markets.
The event was designed to present global investors with the growth strategies of Korea's major industries and companies, while sharing the perspectives of domestic capital market experts.
Over the three days, participants held meetings with major Korean companies including Amorepacific, JYP Entertainment, Hyundai Motor Company, Hana Financial, Hanwha Ocean, LG Energy Solution and SK Group.
At an expert seminar, Kim Rok-ho, a semiconductor sector analyst at Hana Securities' research center, outlined the state of the semiconductor industry amid the global expansion of AI investment and assessed the competitiveness of Korean companies in the sector.
Yang Seung-hu, head of equity management at Hana Asset Management, presented the investment appeal of the Korean stock market and key strategies from the perspective of domestic institutional investors. Lee Seon-yeop, chief executive of AFW Partners, shared his outlook on structural changes in Korea's capital markets and future investment opportunities.
Hana Securities has been expanding its omnibus account service with Futu Securities to improve global investors' access to the domestic stock market. Since launching the service — the first of its kind in the industry — with Hong Kong's Emperor Securities last October, the firm has extended the partnership this year to Japan's Capital Partners Securities and Futu Securities.
The omnibus account system allows non-resident foreign investors to place and settle orders for Korean shares through their local brokerages without opening a separate account in Korea. The arrangement has drawn attention for both improving the convenience of overseas investors and broadening the base for capital inflows into the domestic market.
Hana Securities said it has so far channeled more than 1 trillion won ($728 million) in net foreign purchases into the domestic stock market through the service. The firm plans to extend the service to Hong Kong's Citic Securities and US-based Wedbush Securities.
"Through this event, global investors were able to communicate directly with leading Korean companies and gain exposure to diverse perspectives from domestic capital market experts," said Heo Tae-hyeong, head of Hana Securities' overseas business division. "We will continue to expand cooperation with Futu Securities and other global financial firms to improve overseas investors' access to the Korean market."
