Eastar Jet launches first Daegu flights with Daegu-Zhangjiajie route

Eastar Jet opened its first office in Daegu and held an inaugural ceremony Tuesday at the international passenger terminal of Daegu Airport to mark the launch of its Daegu-Zhangjiajie route.

Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho and Eastar Jet CEO Jo Jung-seok attended the event, along with Daegu City Council Speaker Lim In-hwan, Kim Tae-woo, chairman of the council's construction and transportation committee, and fellow council members, Dong-gu District Mayor U Seong-jin, and officials from Korea Airports Corporation and the Korea Tourism Organization.

Eastar Jet will operate the Daegu-Zhangjiajie route twice a week starting Tuesday, with plans to add a Daegu-Shanghai service, four times a week, in the first half of next year.

Daegu city said it plans to pursue a range of measures to attract airlines and give them the confidence to expand their routes.

"Eastar Jet's inaugural flight to Daegu will serve as a turning point for Daegu Airport to shake off its slump and take a new leap forward," Choo said. "We hope that more airlines will trust in the competitiveness of Daegu city and Daegu Airport and join us in opening more routes."
