Participating businesses to receive 60 trash bags, hand sanitizer annually
Yangju city is rolling out a practical incentive program for private businesses that offer discounts to multi-child families, as part of its efforts to address the low birth rate and foster a culture of support for larger households.
According to Yangju city, the program — officially titled the "Yangju Multi-Child Family Private Discount Business Support Project" — has been under way since August, targeting businesses in the city that have signed discount agreements on behalf of multi-child families.
The program is designed to ease the financial burden on private businesses that voluntarily provide discounts to multi-child families and to encourage their continued participation through tangible support.
A total of 61 businesses have signed on, spanning hagwon (15), cafes (11), medical and dental clinics (9), restaurants (7), hair and beauty salons (5), optical shops (4) and other establishments (10). Newly joining businesses will also be eligible.
This year, the city is providing each participating business with 60 fifty-liter standard trash bags annually — five per month — along with everyday necessities such as hand sanitizer. Items are being distributed directly to each business in batches.
Yangju is accepting applications on a rolling basis through its Family and Children Division's family and population team.
Shim Yun-jeong, head of the Family and Children Division, said the voluntary participation of private businesses in offering discounts for multi-child families has been a major force in building a culture that values larger families. "The city will also do its part through practical support to create an environment where raising children is a joy," she said.
