Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-kyun presented a proposed first supplementary budget for 2026 at the opening session of the 10th Mapo-gu Council, held at 10 a.m. Monday at the council chamber.
The supplementary budget totals 962.71 billion won, an increase of 42.04 billion won, or 4.57 percent, over the base budget of 920.68 billion won.
The district prioritized investment in administrative services to improve residents' convenience. Some 399.81 million won was allocated to redesign the district website using the latest AI technology, developing it into a communication channel connecting residents with local government.
An additional 808.91 million won was set aside for the stable operation of the Mapo 365 Community Center. Funding was also included for remodeling work to add sports facilities inside the Hanseo public parking lot, aiming to boost the utility of the parking complex while expanding space for recreational activities.
The budget also reflects spending on local economic revitalization and enhanced welfare services. Matching funds were allocated for a competitive grant program to modernize traditional markets and improve their safety, as well as for a program supporting pregnant women's access to eco-friendly agricultural and fishery products. Budgets for basic livelihood and housing benefits and disability activity support were increased to reflect changes in the scale and eligibility criteria of national and city government subsidy programs.
Funding for campaign pledge projects was also included. A total of 167.15 million won was set aside for four initiatives: a feasibility study for a multipurpose cultural and sports center at Saetteosan, installation of a Haedeurim Center, operation of a dedicated task force to accelerate redevelopment and reconstruction projects, and a tree-planting drive targeting 5 million trees.
"This supplementary budget focuses on making efficient use of limited resources by directing funds first to the most essential projects, so that residents can feel the results in their daily lives," Yoo said, asking the council to approve the budget as proposed.
The supplementary budget will be finalized on Sept. 22 after deliberation and a vote at the Mapo-gu Council's regular session.
