Lee names Pusan National University professor Kye Seung-kyun to head national IP committee

President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday named Kye Seung-kyun, a professor at Pusan National University, as chair of the National Intellectual Property Committee.

Cheong Wa Dae Chief Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced the appointment in a written briefing that afternoon.

"Professor Kye is a legal scholar well-versed in intellectual property law who has expanded his expertise to cover AI and public procurement," Kang said. "Through his work on various government committees and academic associations, he has contributed to the development of IP policy and legislation, making him the right person to go beyond simply creating and protecting intellectual property and to turn it into a core driver of national growth by proactively responding to changes in the new technology environment, including AI and digital transformation."

Kang went on to say the committee was expected to "faithfully fulfill its role as the control tower of the national IP strategy by enhancing the expertise and effectiveness of the National Intellectual Property Committee."

Kye was born in Busan in 1966 and graduated from Gaya High School before earning a law degree from Pusan National University.
