Jaurim's second album on Sept. 18 and Kim Hyun-chul's fourth on Oct. 23 — an LP listening and storytelling series at Mapo Music Creation Center, which also supports indie musicians with recording, retail distribution and performance opportunities
Mapo-gu is running a music curation program called "LP Hanjan" at Mapo Music Creation Center (238 Mapo-daero), where participants listen to landmark Korean pop albums on vinyl and share stories behind the records.
Mapo Music Creation Center is a dedicated music space housing a live hall, recording studios, individual and band practice rooms, and a multipurpose hall. The Mapo Cultural Foundation currently operates it under contract.
The center rents out its creative spaces and runs "Indiscovery," a project to find and support indie musicians, covering everything from performance opportunities to music production and retail distribution.
It also offers education and networking events alongside programs such as "LP Hanjan" to help residents enjoy music up close and discover new musical experiences.
"LP Hanjan" was conceived as a counterpoint to today's streaming culture, where songs are consumed one at a time in rapid succession. The idea is to sit with a single album from start to finish and engage with the music more deeply. Each session pairs the warm, analog sound of vinyl with conversation about the album and the artist behind it.
The series launched in August with Yoo Jae-ha's debut album "Because I Love You" and runs for three showings in total. The next session, on Sept. 18, features Jaurim's second album "Yeonin" (Lover), followed on Oct. 23 by Kim Hyun-chul's fourth album "Who Stepped On It."
Each showing begins at 11 a.m. in the Live Hall (B1) of Mapo Music Creation Center and runs approximately 80 minutes. Tickets are 10,000 won ($7) for all seats.
Registration is available through the Mapo Cultural Foundation website; further inquiries can be directed to the foundation's arts support team.
"I hope that taking the time to listen slowly to an LP and share stories becomes a small moment of calm in residents' daily lives," Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun said. "We will work to make Mapo Music Creation Center a creative foundation for musicians and a cultural space where residents can encounter great music up close."
