'We hope the card feels more familiar to residents'
Dongducheon will begin issuing a redesigned Dongducheon Sarang Card to new applicants starting Sept. 10, the city announced Wednesday.
The redesign aims to give the local currency card a fresh look and make it feel more approachable to residents.
The new design will apply to first-time cardholders who apply on or after Sept. 10. Anyone submitting a new application from that date onward will receive the updated card rather than the previous version.
However, existing cardholders may continue using their current cards. Those who wish to switch to the new design may do so for a reissuance fee of 3,000 won.
"We hope the newly unveiled Dongducheon Sarang Card feels more familiar to residents," said Kwon Byeol, head of the city's jobs and economy division. "We will continue working to promote the use of local currency and improve convenience for citizens."
The Dongducheon Sarang Card is a local currency issued to support small businesses and boost the local economy within Dongducheon, and can be used at affiliated merchants across the city.
