KAIST Professor Jeong Jae-seung to Lecture on Education in the Age of AI

Guro-gu has organized an event to explore the future of education for the next generation growing up in the age of artificial intelligence.

The district is now accepting registrations on a first-come, first-served basis through Sept. 15 for "Baeum-on University Future Education," part of the Guro Education Cooperation Special District project.

The lecture will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 18 in the auditorium on the fifth floor of Guro District Office's main building and is free and open to all residents. Up to 300 participants may register via an online QR code.

The lecture will be delivered by Jeong Jae-seung, a professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at KAIST and a leading authority in neuroscience. Speaking on the theme "Reflecting on Next-Generation Education in the Age of AI," Jeong will draw on neuroscience and AI to examine what direction education should take as AI technology advances rapidly, and what competencies the next generation will need.

Amid the rapid spread of generative AI and the sweeping changes it is bringing to the learning environment, the lecture is also expected to prompt reflection on how to cultivate distinctly human capacities — critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving — beyond simple knowledge acquisition.

The event is part of the expanded and restructured Baeum-on University curriculum, which has moved beyond its earlier focus on training community instructors. This year, Guro-gu rebranded its Guro-on Village University as "Guro Baeum-on University," relaunching it as an open education platform for teachers, parents, education activists and all residents — not just community education institutions and instructors.

"As AI rapidly takes hold across daily life and education, we need time to think together about the direction of future education," a Guro-gu official said. "We hope this lecture helps residents understand the changing educational landscape and reflect on what education means for the growth of the next generation."
