Aman makes its Korea debut with a landmark mixed-use project in Gangnam-gu
Shinsegae Property eyes role as global high-end developer
Chung Yong-jin drives vision behind Aman Seoul
Shinsegae Property is bringing Aman, one of the world's most exclusive luxury hospitality brands, to Seoul in a high-end lifestyle project spearheaded by Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin.
Shinsegae Property and Aman announced Wednesday that they will develop Aman Seoul in the Cheongdam-dong neighborhood of Gangnam-gu. Aman has pursued only a select number of projects in major global cities including Tokyo and New York. The company chose Cheongdam-dong as its Seoul base, citing Shinsegae Property's large-scale mixed-use development capabilities and Seoul's standing as a global lifestyle destination.
Aman Seoul will rise on a site at 52-3 and 52-7 Cheongdam-dong, spanning 8 below-ground floors and 38 above-ground floors with a total floor area of approximately 70,000 square meters. The development will include a hotel, 49 residential units, and retail and cultural spaces. Shinsegae Property will serve as the project developer, overseeing everything from planning through completion, while Aman will participate as a partner in design and operations. After completion, Aman will take over direct management of the hotel, branded residences and community facilities under a long-term operating agreement.
Shinsegae Property aims to set a new benchmark for the domestic high-end lifestyle market by combining its track record in large-scale mixed-use developments — including the Starfield retail complexes and premium office projects — with Aman's brand prestige.
The partnership extends to the group level. Chung and Aman Group Chairman Vlad Doronin have maintained a strategic relationship in global luxury hospitality and real estate development. In July, Shinsegae Group and OKO Group signed a joint venture agreement to pursue Aman Group hospitality development projects together.
"Aman Seoul will go beyond a simple hotel development to become a new landmark for high-end lifestyle in Seoul," Chung said. "We will continue to create innovative spatial value grounded in our differentiated development capabilities."
Doronin said Seoul has grown into a world-class city where culture, design, technology and wellness converge, placing it at the forefront of global lifestyle trends. "Aman Seoul embodies our conviction in Seoul's future and our vision to establish a new home for the Aman lifestyle in this city," he said.
Aman Seoul is being designed around the concept of an "urban sanctuary," drawing on Aman's signature identity of generous space, complete privacy and restorative calm. The architecture and interiors will blend Korea's distinctive spatial aesthetics with Aman's design philosophy, reflecting Seoul's character as a city where tradition and innovation coexist.
Spa and wellness facilities will be designed to help guests step away from the pace of city life and restore physical and mental balance. A global dining program, including Aman's own proprietary dining brand, will also be part of the development. The Aman Club will offer members-only amenities including a swimming pool, fitness center and lounge, and will serve as a private community space for residents and global club members to connect.
Aman Seoul follows Aman Tokyo, Aman New York and Aman Nai Lert Bangkok, and will join Aman Beverly Hills, Aman Miami Beach, Aman Dubai and Aman Singapore — all currently in development — as part of the brand's ongoing global expansion.
