District mayor tours Yongsan Cultural Foundation events during Frieze Week, promoting local visual arts resources and expanding the district's arts network with domestic and international figures
Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae visited the Yongsan Cultural Foundation's exhibition and related programs held in conjunction with Frieze Seoul's "Hannam Night" on Tuesday.
"Hannam Night" is part of Frieze Seoul's "Neighbourhood Nights" program, which connects major cultural and arts districts across Seoul during Frieze Week. This year's program began in Euljiro on Monday, followed by Hannam on Tuesday, Cheongdam on Wednesday and Samcheong on Thursday, with galleries and cultural spaces in each neighborhood staying open into the evening.
The program was organized to introduce Yongsan's visual arts resources and spaces to domestic and international arts professionals and visitors during Frieze Week, and to expand exchanges among locally based artists and galleries.
At 3 p.m. Tuesday, an artist talk was held at the creative lounge on the second floor of the Yongsan Cultural Foundation, featuring participating artists Kang Jae-won, Lee So-jung and Kim Geu-rim alongside FIM curator Choi Da-rae. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the "Hannam Night" program continued, offering local residents and visitors from home and abroad a chance to engage with Yongsan's cultural and artistic resources.
Kim toured the "Yongsan Archive Series — Visual Arts" exhibition at the creative lounge, reviewing portfolios and working materials from visual artists based in the district. He also examined gallery locations, exhibition information and promotional materials, taking stock of Yongsan's cultural and arts offerings firsthand.
He then met with gallery representatives, artists and domestic and international arts professionals participating in the exhibition, listening to their views and exchanging ideas.
"I hope Hannam Night gives visitors from home and abroad a chance to discover the diverse artists, galleries and cultural spaces that Yongsan has to offer," Kim said. "We will continue to work closely with the district's many cultural and artistic stakeholders to broaden Yongsan's arts network."
