Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corp. said Wednesday it ran a two-day heritage experience program for elementary school students at a community care center in Hanam, starting Tuesday.
The program, titled "National Heritage Dreamers," was organized in partnership with the Korea Heritage Promotion Service, an agency under the Cultural Heritage Administration, and was designed around activities suited to young children.
Participants explored Korea's cultural heritage through hands-on activities centered on Jongmyo, the UNESCO World Heritage royal shrine — assembling a three-dimensional puzzle of the site and playing replicas of traditional instruments used in Jongmyo Jerye-ak, the ritual court music performed there, including the chuk, eo and bak.
The program is part of GH's ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts centered on national heritage. The corporation has maintained a partnership with the Cultural Heritage Administration since signing a "Heritage Guardian" agreement in 2010, consistently expanding its heritage-related community activities since then.
"We will lead the way in social contribution activities that bring children closer to cultural heritage so they can nurture their dreams, by further expanding hands-on, field-centered programs that showcase the excellence of our traditional culture," GH President Kim Yong-jin said.
