Fifth-grader drags, punches and kicks teacher in Cheongju elementary school classroom

A fifth-grade student assaulted a teacher at an elementary school in Cheongju.

According to education authorities, the incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday inside a classroom at the school, when a fifth-grade girl identified as A attacked her teacher, identified as B.

Footage captured in the classroom showed A suddenly rushing at B, who was standing at the front of the room, and kicking him.

A then grabbed both of B's arms as he tried to restrain her and dragged him to the back of the classroom. She kicked him and struck his head and face with her fists, and also grabbed him by the hair and pulled, according to authorities.

A also directed profanity at the vice principal and another teacher who intervened to stop the assault, and continued her aggressive behavior toward them.

A was known to struggle with emotional instability and had previously directed profanity and violent behavior at multiple teachers and students.

The day before the incident, she had cursed at B, complaining that the test papers she received were dirty. When B told her Wednesday that the test would be retaken, she attacked him.

B left school early after the incident and received medical treatment at a hospital.

Education authorities said they plan to take emergency measures against the student, including immediate removal from the classroom and suspension, while providing counseling to support the affected teacher and help stabilize the mental well-being of other students in the class.
