Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul is accepting story submissions ahead of the "2026 Baebongsan Sunset Concert," set for 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the summit of Baebongsan.
This year's concert was planned to highlight the historical value of a local cultural heritage site, marking the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Baebongsan Fortress — once a key military communications and signaling post.
The fortress's role as a communications hub has been reinterpreted through the format of a "radio" program, turning the event into a participatory concert where residents' stories and song requests are introduced on stage.
The theme for submissions this year is "My 10 Years Ago, Our 10 Years Ahead." Organizers hope to gather stories that resonate broadly — whether a cherished memory or connection from a decade past, or a vision of what one's family and neighborhood might look like 10 years from now.
Selected stories will be shared on stage alongside a diverse lineup of performances, including a set by singer Choi Baek-ho, a guitar performance by LATENCY Huiyeon, world music group Accordion Art, and fusion gugak group Hwihwangchannak.
Submissions are open through Saturday via online and offline channels. Online entries can be sent by email to bbssunset@ddm.go.kr, while offline submissions can be dropped into "Sunset Mailboxes" installed at 10 key facilities across the district to capture stories from residents of all generations.
The Sunset Mailboxes are located at Dongdaemun-gu District Office (first floor), Dapsimni Film and Media Art Center, Baebongsan Forest Library, Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center, Dongdaemun-gu Education Support Center, Seoul Youth Center Dongdaemun, DDM Youth Hangout, Dongbaekkkot Senior Welfare Center, Dongdaemun-gu Comprehensive Childcare Support Center (Dapsimni branch), and Dongdaemun-gu Infant Love Center.
Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said the Baebongsan Sunset Concert is "an autumn gift where songs, guitar melodies and gugak rhythms blend into one beneath a sky ablaze with the colors of day's end," adding that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Baebongsan Fortress and that the district is collecting stories from residents to share alongside the music, and urged everyone to take part.
