Entered India's feed market in 2018; now pushing beyond northern India

Sunjin, a livestock and food company, announced Thursday that it is actively pursuing a "Pan-India" strategy to expand its locally tailored livestock solutions across all of India, moving beyond its existing foothold in the north.

India is the world's largest dairy producer, generating about 250 million tons of milk annually. Low adoption of high-quality compound feed, however, has kept milk yields unstable. Seeing strong growth potential, Sunjin entered the Indian market in 2018 through its local subsidiary, Sunjin India.

Since launching "Suntec" — South Korea's first pelleted dairy feed — in 1997, Sunjin has developed nutritional technology tailored to the growth stages and rearing conditions of dairy cattle. More recently, the company has expanded into robotic milking and smart livestock technology, broadening its offering into a comprehensive solution for improving overall dairy productivity.

Sunjin redesigned its solutions to suit local conditions — climate, raw material availability and farm scale — so that farmers can put them to practical use. Representative offerings include "Quick Scan," which assesses the raw materials and roughage on hand at each farm, and "YOLO Mix," which recommends customized feed formulations for individual farms.

The company also introduced a "Model Farm" program that applies premium feed and feeding-management solutions at actual farms to verify productivity gains. Successful outcomes are then shared with neighboring farms, building a community-based business model.

Sunjin has also differentiated itself in feed manufacturing technology. Its factory in Rajpura became the first in India to adopt a "double conditioner and double pellet mill" system, which applies heat and pressure to raw materials twice to improve feed digestibility and produce uniform, dense, high-quality pellets.

These efforts have yielded results. Last year, at the international dairy exhibition PEDA's Holstein milking competition, a customer farm using Sunjin feed and YOLO Mix recorded a peak daily milk yield of 82 liters. This year, at the PDFA competition, Sunjin customer farms placed among the top rankings in the Murrah and Nili Ravi buffalo categories — two of India's leading breeds.

Annual feed sales at Sunjin India nearly tripled, rising from about 17,500 tons in 2021 to about 49,000 tons in 2025. In response, the company is doubling the monthly production capacity at its Rajpura factory from 8,000 tons to 16,000 tons and strengthening its production, logistics and ERP infrastructure. It also plans to extend its market reach from Rajasthan and Gujarat into key western and southern regions, including Maharashtra and Karnataka.

"Building on our experience developing Korea's feed and livestock-management technology to suit local conditions and delivering results alongside farmers, we will grow into a comprehensive livestock solution company that contributes to improving the productivity of India's livestock industry," a Sunjin India official said.
