Paju-type public housing program offers units at below-market rates
Paju is accepting applications for six units under its "FINE Housing" purchase-type program, aimed at easing housing costs for young residents, newlyweds and families with multiple children and helping them settle in the city.
The FINE Housing purchase-type program is a Paju-style public housing initiative that uses city-owned assets to supply housing to non-homeowning youth, newlywed couples and multi-child households at below-market rental rates.
The six units include one apartment at Jangan Miu for newlywed couples, one apartment at Soejae Maeul for multi-child households, and four youth housing units in Beopwon-eup. The youth units come furnished with basic appliances and furniture — including a refrigerator, air conditioner, washing machine, bed and storage — to reduce upfront housing costs.
The city also plans to select 12 alternate applicants — twice the number of units available per category — to fill any vacancies arising from contract withdrawals.
Applicants must have lived continuously in Paju for at least two years as of Friday, the announcement date, and must not own a home. Youth applicants must be between 19 and 39 years old; newlywed couples must have been married for seven years or less, or be engaged; and multi-child households must have two or more minor children.
Selection will be based on a scoring system rather than a lottery, with units going to the highest scorers in each category. Youth applicants are evaluated on factors including the distance between the unit and their primary workplace, length of employment or business operation, length of continuous residence in Paju, and age. Unemployed youth are also eligible and will be scored under the applicable criteria.
The rental deposit is set at 10 percent of the unit's officially assessed apartment price, with monthly rent calculated at 1 percent of that assessed price per year. The initial lease term is two years, with extensions possible for up to 10 years in total, including additional extensions granted upon the birth of a child.
Applications are open from Sept. 14 to Sept. 18 and must be submitted in person at the Paju Residential Welfare Center, located at 36 Siheong-ro, Annex 2 of Paju City Hall. Online and postal applications will not be accepted.
