Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province will host the Gangwon edition of the "AI Future Forum — Into the Regions" on Monday at the 60th Anniversary Hall on Gangwon National University's Chuncheon campus, under the theme "Solving Gangwon's Problems with AI: Gangwon's Future Leaping Forward through AX."
The event is co-hosted by the National Coalition for Science and Technology in a Righteous Society's AI Future Forum and Gangwon National University.
The forum will focus on AI application strategies tailored to Gangwon's regional characteristics, including the development of a Gangwon-style AI data center, AI-based disaster response and the cultivation of a defense drone industry.
The province plans to use the forum as a springboard to develop a Gangwon-specific AI model spanning data centers, disaster safety and the defense industry, while expanding AI adoption among local businesses and deepening industry-academia-military cooperation.
"This forum is a meaningful opportunity to connect AI with Gangwon's real-world challenges and industries," said Han Yeong-seon, director of the province's industry bureau. "We will use the proposals discussed here as a roadmap for advancing Gangwon's AI industry and addressing local issues."
Lee Su-yong, a director at Naver Cloud, will present strategies for building a Gangwon-style AI data center and nurturing related industries. Kim Gyeong-nam, a senior research fellow at the Gangwon Research Institute, will outline ways to use AI in overcoming disasters in the region. Kim Hui-hwan, head of planning support at the Army Science Warfare Training Corps, will propose a vision for developing Gangwon's future industries centered on defense drones.
A talk concert will bring together representatives from Gangwon National University, Gangwon Technopark, Naver Cloud, Army Headquarters, The Pict and Geomax Soft to discuss how AI can be integrated into Gangwon's industries and policy.
