In an era when having children is seen as a patriotic act, families in Samcheok who raise multiple children will now receive help paying for college.
Samcheok city is launching a 2026 special support project for multi-child families that will subsidize college tuition costs, aiming to ease the financial burden on those households and foster a more child-friendly community.
Eligible recipients are college students aged 24 or younger who are the second or subsequent child in a multi-child family whose guardian has been continuously registered and residing in Samcheok for at least six months before the application date. However, support for second children applies only to students who entered university as freshmen in 2025 or later.
Qualifying students may receive a one-time lifetime payment of up to 1 million won ($730) toward tuition and enrollment fees.
Students who have already received scholarships — including national scholarships, local government grants, university scholarships, or private organization awards — may still apply for support on the remaining out-of-pocket tuition balance, up to the 1 million won ceiling.
Applications are open through the end of the second semester of 2026, though the program may close early if the budget is exhausted.
Students or their guardians wishing to apply should prepare supporting documents — such as a tuition payment receipt or an official tuition certificate issued by the university — and visit the community service center in the eup, myeon or dong where they are registered.
