Andong's Woryeong Train and Waryong Light Tunnel to open Wednesday

Andong city in North Gyeongsang Province will officially open the Woryeong Train and Waryong Light Tunnel — the centerpiece tourist facilities of the Woryeonggaram-gil trail — at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the city announced Thursday.

The Woryeonggaram-gil is a 2.6-kilometer route running from Imcheongak through the Seongnak Sky Rail Bridge to the Waryong Light Tunnel.

Observation decks and rest areas are set up along the way, allowing visitors to ride the Woryeong Train or walk the path while taking in views of the Nakdong River and the atmosphere of the old railway.

The Woryeong Train and Waryong Light Tunnel had their public debut during a trial operation period from July 31 to Aug. 9.

The Woryeong Train is an eco-friendly electric trackless train that departs from Imcheongak and runs a loop through the Seongnak Sky Rail Bridge and the Waryong Light Tunnel, offering views of the Nakdong River's waterfront scenery along the old rail corridor.

The train operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 10 runs a day from Imcheongak Station — the first departure at 10 a.m. and the last at 4:30 p.m. The round-trip fare is 3,000 won ($2.30).

The Waryong Light Tunnel transforms a 560-meter former railway tunnel with lighting installations and media content, including video projections. Each section of the tunnel features a different combination of light and imagery to create a distinct atmosphere.

The tunnel is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last entry at 5:20 p.m. Admission is 1,000 won for elementary school students, 3,000 won for middle and high school students, and 5,000 won for adults.

Both the Woryeong Train and the Waryong Light Tunnel are closed every Monday. If Monday falls on a public holiday, the closure shifts to the next available weekday.

"The Woryeong Train and Waryong Light Tunnel are the core tourist facilities of the Woryeonggaram-gil, where visitors can experience the traces of the old railway, the waterfront scenery of the Nakdong River, and light-based content all in one place," a city official said. "With the official opening, we will strengthen operations and add diverse programs to make it a destination that both residents and tourists will want to return to."
