A 16,972-square-meter green space near Yongmasan will feature an ecological restoration forest, smart farm, garden-style allotments and a horticultural experience center for residents.
Jungnang-gu will restore degraded woodland on Yongmasan and develop the area into a community green space — dubbed the "Yongmasan everyday forest" — where residents can enjoy nature and urban farming as part of their daily lives.
The project will create a 16,972-square-meter green space by linking a damaged-land restoration project led by the Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) with a community park developed by Jungnang-gu.
The SH Corporation's restoration work covers 14,348 square meters of Yongmasan Neighborhood Park behind Seoil University in Myeongmok 3 and 8-dong. The site was designated for restoration following the lifting of development restrictions on the Sinnae 4 public housing district and was selected through a Seoul Metropolitan Government integrated public housing review in 2021. Administrative procedures — including a review by the Seoul Urban Park Committee and approval of a revised park development plan — have since been completed, and the site is set to receive an ecological restoration forest, a smart farm and a horticultural experience center.
Jungnang-gu has already completed a community park on an adjacent 2,624-square-meter plot in Myeongmok-dong. The area had been degraded by years of unregulated farming and accumulated household waste; the district acquired the land through compensation, cleared it and drew up a planting and spatial plan coordinated with the SH Corporation's adjacent restoration site.
The smart farm will be equipped with advanced agricultural technology so that farming activities and educational programs can continue regardless of extreme weather or seasonal changes. Garden-style allotments and a horticultural experience center will offer residents hands-on urban farming — growing crops, tending plants and harvesting produce — while the ecological restoration forest will provide a space to experience the natural environment.
"We will make the Yongmasan everyday forest a place where residents can encounter nature and urban farming right in their daily lives," Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "We will draw on the distinct character of each space — the ecological restoration forest, smart farm, garden allotments and horticultural experience center — so that residents can enjoy a wide range of activities and experiences."
