Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-kyun visited the "Eoreusin Bapsang" ("senior meal program") at Seongsan 2-dong Community Service Center on Thursday to review the program's operations and speak with elderly residents over lunch.
Yoo toured the dining area, checking whether residents had any difficulties using the facility and whether improvements to the menu were translating into greater satisfaction among diners.
The district runs the senior meal program at community hubs including religious and public facilities, supplying nutritionally balanced soups and banchan prepared at a dedicated factory so that elderly residents can enjoy a warm meal close to home.
Starting Tuesday, the district expanded the program to 15 senior community centers — known as gyeongrodang — on top of the existing hub locations, so that elderly residents can also eat at the centers they already frequent.
"I came to hear directly from the seniors whether they have any difficulties with their meals and whether the food suits their taste," Yoo said. "Going forward, I will continue to pay close attention so that each meal can contribute to their health and bring joy to their daily lives."
