RF subsidiary RFTC spun off as independent unit; company to focus on 5G equipment and defense RF projects
RFtech is accelerating the development of RF (radio frequency) technology for drone defense systems, which have emerged as a game-changer on the modern battlefield.
The company announced Thursday it is shifting from a mobile accessories-focused business into a specialist in 5G and defense RF technology.
To strengthen its capabilities in 5G communications equipment and defense RF, RFtech has spun off its R&D organization into a separate subsidiary, RFTC, and plans to expand its RF business. The company said the decision was made to develop its 5G antenna and filter technology and defense RF technology into independent technology platforms.
RFtech entered the RF equipment market in 2019 by supplying 5G antenna filter units to Samsung Electronics. Since then, it has built up expertise in 5G base station antenna and filter technology, including large-scale supply of Massive MIMO base station antenna units (AU) and antenna filter units (AFU).
"RFTC will pursue 6G communications equipment technology development based on its existing 5G R&D capabilities, while accelerating work on defense RF technology, including drone defense systems," a company official said. "In the defense sector, we will expand our RF technology areas covering detection, jamming and antennas."
