Horror classics 'Exhuma,' 'Gongjiam' return to cinemas for late-summer screams

A trio of chilling Korean horror films is heading back to cinemas to help audiences beat the late-summer heat — Gongjiam, Exhuma and Salmokji.

CJ CGV announced Thursday it will present a "Late Summer Horror Special" as part of its ScreenX Re:Masterpiece series, which reimagines acclaimed films in the immersive ScreenX format.

The program brings together three pillars of Korean occult and horror cinema — Gongjiam, Salmokji and Exhuma — in ScreenX, a format that extends the image across screens on both sides of the auditorium to heighten tension and create a more visceral sense of presence.

All screenings are priced at 10,000 won ($7), and a limited-edition festival poster will be given to early arrivals while supplies last.

The Late Summer Horror Special will run at 25 CJ CGV locations nationwide, including Gangnam, Gangneung, Godeok Gangil, Guro, Gimpo, Daejeon Terminal, Deungchon, Bucheon, Baegot, Sangbong, Seomyeon, Sejong, Centum City, Ansan, Yeongdeungpo Times Square, Ori, Wangsimni, Yongsan iPark Mall, Ulsan Samsan, Uijeongbu, Incheon, Ilsan, Cheonho, Pyeongtaek and Hongdae.

"At the tail end of an exceptionally hot summer, we wanted to give audiences a chance to experience these horror masterpieces with the overwhelming immersion that only ScreenX can offer," said Seong Ho-kyung, head of CJ CGV's IMC team. "We hope it becomes a special theatrical experience that lets everyone close out the summer with a cool shiver."
