Cheong Wa Dae pushes back on reports of imminent troop deployment to Strait of Hormuz

Cheong Wa Dae said Thursday that media reports suggesting the South Korean government had decided to deploy troops to the Strait of Hormuz were "not true."

In a notice issued that day, Cheong Wa Dae said "no decision has been made on the matter," and doubled down on its standing position, saying the government "has been in close consultation with the international community on ways to make a practical contribution to the swift restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and to peace and stability in the Middle East."

Earlier that day, a media outlet reported that the government had leaned toward deploying troops to the Strait of Hormuz and was reviewing the details in preparation for submitting a troop-dispatch consent motion to the National Assembly in the near future.
