About 50 housing project officials and association heads attend forum to air on-site difficulties; participants discuss deregulation and streamlined permitting to speed up development
Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi has rolled up his sleeves for local development.
Particularly active in communicating with residents to accelerate projects, Ryu has moved swiftly on redevelopment, reconstruction and fast-track integration since taking office in the eighth and ninth rounds of local elections.
Against that backdrop, Ryu hosted a forum Thursday at the district office on speeding up housing development projects, drawing about 50 participants including project officials and association heads from across the district.
The forum was organized to hear firsthand difficulties encountered at housing development sites and to explore ways to advance projects more quickly through regulatory improvements and administrative support. District office officials and project stakeholders reviewed factors causing delays in improvement projects and discussed measures to facilitate a smoother housing supply.
Among the regulatory and procedural improvements discussed were ways to expand housing supply within private development zones, a review of regulations on small-scale housing supply, and a reasonable easing of the donation and public-contribution ratios required when pursuing urban public housing complex projects.
Participants also examined preliminary procedures and administrative support measures to shorten the permitting period for building demolition, one of the main factors behind project delays.
Attendees agreed that public-contribution ratios and permitting timelines can act as obstacles to project progress, and shared the view that the public and private sectors must work together to eliminate unnecessary regulations and cut project timelines.
"I hope this forum serves as an opportunity to clear up residents' questions about the complex procedures involved in housing development and to jointly explore ways to move projects forward more quickly," Ryu said. "We will continue to listen to voices from the field and actively provide the administrative support needed, grounded in close communication between the district office and residents."
