Through pre-pregnancy health management support program
Dongducheon announced Friday that it will subsidize fertility checkup costs for men and women aged 20 to 49 through its pre-pregnancy health management support program.
The program is designed to help men and women of reproductive age check their reproductive health before conception, enabling them to prepare for a healthy pregnancy.
Residents of Dongducheon between the ages of 20 and 49 are eligible. The city will cover up to 130,000 won ($95) for women and up to 50,000 won for men. Support is available up to three times over a person's lifetime, divided by age bracket — 20 to 29, 30 to 34, and 35 to 49 — allowing residents to monitor their fertility at different life stages. Women may receive tests including an anti-Müllerian hormone assessment of ovarian function and a gynecological ultrasound, while men may receive a semen analysis.
Residents wishing to participate can apply online through the e-Public Health Center portal or in person at a local public health center to obtain a referral. They must then visit a participating medical institution within three months of receiving the referral. After the examination, they have one month to submit a receipt, an itemized bill and a copy of a bank account in their name to claim reimbursement. Foreign nationals may apply without a specific visa requirement if they have a Korean spouse.
Yang Ung-sik, head of the health and mental wellness division at the Dongducheon Public Health Center, said checking one's reproductive health in advance can be beneficial regardless of marriage or pregnancy status, not only when actively planning a pregnancy. "We will continue to actively promote a range of maternal and child health programs so that residents can prepare for pregnancy and childbirth in the healthiest way possible," he added.
