'Senior center doctor program' brings care to older adults across the city
Pocheon is running a mobile health program that sends medical professionals directly to senior centers, offering older residents a reliable source of health support in their daily lives.
Known as the "senior center doctor program," the initiative dispatches public health workers to senior centers in medically underserved areas where elderly residents have limited access to healthcare facilities, the city said Friday.
Services include blood pressure and blood sugar checks, basic health screenings for cholesterol and anemia, internal medicine and dental consultations, education on preventing and managing chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, and oral health care.
In September, the program will visit five senior centers: the Yangmun 1-ri senior center in Yeongjung-myeon on Sept. 14, the Sajeong-ri senior center in Gwanin-myeon on Sept. 21, the Yami 1-ri senior center in Yeongbuk-myeon on Sept. 23, the Yeongok 4-ri senior center in Idong-myeon on Sept. 28, and the Samseongdanggil 2-ri senior center in Sinbuk-myeon on Sept. 30. All sessions begin at 2 p.m.
"The senior center doctor program goes beyond simply providing health checkups — it is about going directly into the daily lives of our elderly residents and looking after their health together," said Lee Mi-seon, head of the health policy division. "We will continue to expand our mobile health services so that every resident can enjoy a healthier and happier later life."
