'In someone else's country': Foreign men sleep with feet up on priority seats in Seoul subway

Two foreign men were caught on camera occupying an entire row of priority seats on a Seoul subway train while asleep, drawing widespread criticism.

A tip-off photo capturing the incident on Seoul Metro Line 6 aired on Wednesday's broadcast of JTBC's "Sageon Banjang," a current-affairs program.

In the photo, one of the men sleeps with both legs stretched across the seat and his shoes still on, leaning against the person beside him. The other man, also a foreigner, was likewise asleep. The two appeared to know each other. The seats they occupied were priority seats reserved for the elderly, people with disabilities, children and pregnant women — a pictogram on the wall beside the seats marks them as such.

The person who submitted the photo said, "They're riding someone else's country's subway and sleeping with their feet up on the priority seats."

It was not confirmed whether any passengers who needed the priority seats were in fact affected, or how crowded the train was at the time.

Online commenters reacted sharply to the photo, saying putting feet up on priority seats was "too much," calling it a complete disregard for others, and noting that such conduct is inconsiderate regardless of nationality.
