Mayor takes office on the road to hear from residents
Uiwang Mayor Kim Sung-je held a "traveling mayor's office" session at the Indeokowon Xi SK View apartment complex on Thursday, sitting down with residents to hear their concerns.
The event came less than a year after a previous "traveling mayor's office" session held at the same location in November last year, and was organized to continue gathering residents' voices and to share updates on proposals raised at that earlier gathering.
About 150 residents attended the session, during which Kim briefed them on the progress of 16 proposals submitted by residents last year and outlined key projects under the ninth directly elected mayoral term.
Kim gave a detailed account of what steps the city had taken in response to each proposal from last year's session, allowing residents to see directly how their input had been reflected in city administration.
During the open floor session that followed, residents — many of them newcomers to the apartment complex — raised concerns closely tied to their daily lives, including snow-removal measures on sloped roads, crackdowns on illegal parking and stopping, and requests to adjust bus service intervals.
"It means even more to hear your voices again, following last year's session," Kim said. "I believe that transparently sharing the progress on residents' proposals and listening to new ones is what genuine communicative governance looks like."
He added, "I will do my utmost to bring about changes that citizens can truly feel in their everyday lives."
Meanwhile, the "traveling mayor's office" is one of Uiwang's signature community outreach initiatives, in which Mayor Kim visits residents in their neighborhoods to hear their concerns and discuss local issues firsthand. The city said it plans to continue going directly into residents' daily lives and actively incorporating their feedback into city administration.
