Picnic mats blanketed Yeouido Hangang Park in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on Friday, one day before the 2026 Seoul International Fireworks Festival, as visitors rushed to claim the best viewing spots. To curb the private occupation of public space by unattended mats and other items, the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Future Han River Headquarters began removing abandoned mats at 9:30 a.m. that day. Confiscated items are being held at the Yeouido Information Center.
