A 3-year-old boy was found in cardiac arrest at a day care center in Cheongju and died after being rushed to a hospital.
According to police, a teacher at the day care center discovered the boy, identified only as A, not breathing at around 2:52 p.m. Friday and called emergency services.
The teacher had gone to check on the boy after he failed to wake up when nap time ended, and found him lying face down on the floor.
Emergency responders transported the boy to a hospital in cardiac arrest, but he did not survive.
The boy is believed to have fallen asleep around 1 p.m. Friday after lunch. No signs of external injury or abuse have been found so far.
Police plan to request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death, and will question day care center staff and review internal CCTV footage to establish the full circumstances.
