MBC narrows next president candidates to 4

The pool of candidates for the next president of MBC has been narrowed to four.

The Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Association, the major shareholder and supervisory body of MBC, held its 12th regular board meeting Friday, interviewing eight candidates before selecting four finalists to recommend to the Public Recommendation Committee for MBC President Candidates. The four are Lee Geun-haeng, former head of MBC's content strategy division; Lee Seong-ju, a director at iMBC; Lee Ho-in, president of Yeosu MBC; and Jeon Dong-geon, former president of Ulsan MBC (listed in Korean alphabetical order).

The recommendation committee, comprising 150 members of the public, will convene at 1 p.m. Wednesday at MBC's Golden Mouse Hall, where the four candidates will present their policy platforms before the committee selects two finalists through deliberative evaluation.

The association's board will then hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. on Sept. 13 to conduct final interviews with the two candidates and designate a president-elect. The new MBC president will be formally confirmed at an MBC shareholder meeting on Sept. 14.

Both the recommendation committee session and the board's final interview will be livestreamed on the iMBC website and MBC's YouTube channel.
