ArtCube 2R2 to Showcase Korean Contemporary Art at Tokyo Gendai 2026

ArtCube 2R2 Gallery will participate in Tokyo Gendai 2026, an international contemporary art fair held in Japan, to promote Korean contemporary art to a global audience.

ArtCube 2R2 announced Monday that it will take part in Tokyo Gendai, running Friday through Sunday at Pacifico Yokohama in Yokohama, Japan. The gallery has teamed up with Taos Gallery Tokyo to present a joint exhibition at Booth H17 in the "Hana" sector, which is dedicated to introducing emerging and mid-career artists.

Tokyo Gendai, which launched in 2023, is holding its fourth edition this year. It is one of Japan's leading contemporary art fairs, drawing galleries, collectors and art institution representatives from Asia, Europe and North America. This year's event will also feature international galleries including Pace Gallery, Sadie Coles HQ and Upsilon Gallery.

ArtCube 2R2 will put the works of Choi Young-wook and Ha Tae-im at the forefront of its presentation.

Choi is known for his "Karma" series, which draws on the moon jar — the white porcelain vessel of the Joseon Dynasty. His works are held in the collections of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Spanish royal family, and he has continued to expand his international presence, most recently with a solo exhibition in Los Angeles.

Ha has built her practice around abstract works featuring repeating color bands. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, she received the Monaco Kingdom Award at the 1999 Monaco International Contemporary Painting Exhibition. Her works are held in the collections of the Seoul Museum of Art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco.

Works by Japanese artists will also be on view. Taos Gallery, which opened in Roppongi, Tokyo, in July last year, will present pieces by MIKITYPE, a typographer who extends the visual language of calligraphy into painting, and Kyojiro Kitoh, who has pursued abstract painting for more than 40 years. The joint booth is designed to invite visitors to compare the distinct visual vocabularies of Korean and Japanese artists side by side.

Hong Ji-suk, chief executive of ArtToken and ArtCube 2R2, said the gallery has consistently introduced artists' works through various art fairs at home and abroad. "At Tokyo Gendai, we hope to share the unique aesthetic sensibility and contemporary spirit of Korean art — through the works of Choi Young-wook and Ha Tae-im — with local audiences and collectors in Japan, and to use this opportunity to broaden exchange between Korean and Japanese artists and the wider art world," she said.

She added that the gallery would continue to expand artists' platforms and connect the Korean and international art markets through collaboration with galleries and artists at home and abroad.

The Tokyo Gendai 2026 VIP preview will be held Thursday, with general admission running Friday through Sunday. The joint exhibition by ArtCube 2R2 and Taos Gallery can be found at Booth H17 in the Hana sector.
