The South Jeolla-Gwangju Integrated Special City announced Monday it will run a village tour linking the Gwangju Biennale with the modern historical and cultural heritage of Yangnim-dong in Nam-gu.
The program centers on three offerings: a docent-led pavilion exhibition tour, a theater tour staged in the alleyways of Yangnim-dong, and a shuttle bus connecting the biennale's main exhibition hall, the Asia Culture Center and Yangnim-dong.
The pavilion tour takes visitors to 10 Yangnim-dong pavilion sites — including the Yi Jang-u House, the Lee Kang-ha Art Museum, the Woo Il-sun Missionary Residence and the Lee Lee Nam Studio — accompanied by a docent. It runs every Friday and Saturday from Sept. 18 through Nov. 14.
The theater tour, which brings stories of Gwangju a century ago to life in the neighborhood's alleyways, runs every Friday and Saturday afternoon from Oct. 2 through Oct. 31.
Admission for each tour is 10,000 won ($7), and participants receive a 5,000-won coupon redeemable at local businesses in Yangnim-dong.
Biennale ticket holders can also ride a free shuttle bus between the main exhibition hall and Yangnim-dong every Friday and Saturday from Sept. 18 through Nov. 14.
A batch of 100 early-bird tickets priced at 10,000 won each — bundling access to both the biennale and the Yangnim tour — sold out within two days of going on sale.
