Yeungnam University of Science and Technology holds mentoring lecture for graduates

Yeungnam University of Science and Technology held a mentoring lecture Monday for engineering graduates, prospective graduates and local youth at the audiovisual room of its Computer Information Building.

Four alumni currently employed at Posco — Moon Seong-uk, Seo Hui-jun, Song Ju-yeop and Shin Hyo-jae — served as mentors at the event.

The mentors shared their personal experiences, covering everything from their job-search days as students to the hiring process, their current responsibilities and the skills the workplace demands, engaging in candid conversation with their juniors.

The program opened with mentor introductions and an icebreaking session, followed by a talk concert on landing a job at Posco and navigating the application process, and concluded with small-group mentoring sessions.

During the talk concert, the mentors shared strategies and experiences for job seekers and discussed the qualities companies look for in candidates. Participants used a question-and-answer segment to gather information about job preparation and corporate life.

In the group mentoring sessions that followed, the four mentors spoke directly with participants in small groups, discussing strategies for joining Posco, day-to-day work duties, organizational culture and the competencies required for different roles.

Seong Geum-gil, director of the university's Job Plus Center, said the experiences of alumni would be a great help to students seeking to understand what skills the workplace requires and build their own competitive edge.
