Yeungnam University transfers agri-solar power system technology to Sunteam Tech

Yeungnam University signed a technology transfer agreement with Sunteam Tech on Friday, handing over its "agrivoltaic solar power generation system with modular foundation structures" and laying the groundwork for commercialization and expanded industry-academia cooperation.

Yeungnam University President Choi Oe-chul and Sunteam Tech co-CEOs Park Kyung-su and Kim Jin-ho attended the signing ceremony, along with officials from both organizations.

Participants signed the technology transfer contract and discussed concrete cooperation plans — including joint research, field application and further technology development — sharing a commitment to bringing the university's research outcomes to market as quickly as possible.

The transferred technology, developed by Jeong Jae-hak, a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Yeungnam University, covers a registered patent and related know-how for the agrivoltaic solar power generation system with modular foundation structures.

Yeungnam University concluded the contract at a total value of 150 million won ($89,400), comprising 120 million won for the patent assignment and 30 million won for the transfer of related know-how.

Through the agreement, the university will transfer core technologies and expertise accumulated in its laboratories to industry, while Sunteam Tech will use them to pursue commercialization and further technological advancement in line with market demand.

The two organizations plan to go beyond a simple one-time transfer, working to strengthen competitiveness in the eco-friendly energy industry through ongoing technology exchange and joint research.

"We expect this technology transfer agreement with Yeungnam University to serve as an important catalyst that takes our research and development capabilities to the next level," Park said.

President Choi said the transfer "will serve as a model case of industry-academia cooperation — one where the university's research outcomes become a growth engine for a company and, in turn, deliver real value back to our society."
