South Korea's women's 400m medley relay wins bronze to close out swimming program

South Korea's women's swimming team closed out its Asian Games program with a bronze medal in the 400m medley relay, the final event on the pool schedule.

Kim Seung-won, Park Si-eun, Ahn Se-hyeon and Heo Yeon-gyeong touched the wall in 4:00.67 to finish third in the final held Friday at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. China took gold in 3:54.55, setting a new Asian Games record, while Japan claimed silver in 3:57.64.

The medley relay has four swimmers each covering 100 meters in sequence — backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.

Starting from lane three, South Korea held third place from the opening leg. Kim led off with a backstroke split of 1:00.00, handing over in third. Park followed on breaststroke, reaching the 200-meter mark in 2:07.39, and Ahn maintained the position through the butterfly leg, hitting the 300-meter mark in 3:05.43. Anchor Heo brought the team home in 4:00.67 to seal the bronze.

For Kim, it was her second medal of the Games, adding to the bronze she won in the women's 50m backstroke on Monday.

With the race concluded, South Korea wrapped up all of its pool events at the Asian Games.
